Gorgeous Inn, Great People We stayed at the Scotsman Inn for one night and had a great experience! Sandy & Cathy are very friendly + had great recommendations. We got a free upgrade and our room was clean, comfortable, and beautiful. The whole inn is gorgeous! The highlight of our stay was definitely breakfast served by Sandy in his kilt 🙂

A welcoming stay Our experience began when we arrived and checked in with Sandy. He was very welcoming and showed us around. Our room was very nice with a huge, high bed! We loved that the hotel was so close to the water. Sandy gave us a great recommendation for dinner and it was fabulous! Best meal we had during our whole time in Nova Scotia. He also suggested more scenic routes for our travels. Breakfast was a wonderful experience - hearing stories from Sandy and meeting our fellow guests including a newly wed couple and a couple celebrating their anniversary. The croissant were delicious!! If I'm ever back in Pictou or hear of anyone going there, I'll recommend the Scotsman Inn.

A Great Stay at the Scotsman Inn My husband and I had a great stay at the Scotsman Inn in August. Each room is beautifully appointed with period furniture and comfortable beds. The hotel is spotlessly clean and Sandy Best, the genial host, makes sure that all the guests are welcomed and made to feel part of the family. And he serves breakfast in a Scottish kilt. A memorable stay!

Our best stop on our journey The Scotsman Inn is a very charming, comfortable, and cozy place to stay. Sandy & Cathy, our hosts, were warm and welcoming. If you are looking for a quiet, lovely place, you will find it at the Scotsman Inn. If asked, Sandy can provide you with info on what to see, how to get there, and great places to eat. There is plenty to see and do in Pictou County.

Perfect Bed and Breakfast We were thoroughly impressed with this inn. Sandy and Cathy made us feel like guests in their own home. The rooms were immaculate, I felt bad wearing my shoes inside. Speaking of shoes, on one of our hikes I stepped in a mud puddle, upon returning to the inn, Sandy offered to wash it for me! Now that is above and beyond customer service. Sandy made recommendations on daily excursions and all were fantastic. They also gave us restaurant recommendations and called ahead to make reservations. I highly recommend this inn but if you are looking for a typical hotel, this is not it. It is and old building, beautifully restored, but no elevator. Sandy and his wife,Cathy, do it all…cooking, cleaning, and guest check in. Thank you for making our trip to Nova Scotia so special. Steve and Bernadette, Denver,Colorado USA.

A taste of Scotland Beautifully restored inn. The owner Sandy, a Scotsman, is a remarkable host. Informative, welcoming. Rooms are gorgeous. Clean. Entire inn is furnished with old antiques. A hidden gem of a place. This town of Pictou in Nova Scotia is known for its large concentration of Scottish descendents and the Scotsman with its Scottish owner and host brings an air of authenticity to the experience. A must see.

Highly Recommend Sandy and Kathy welcomed us into their inn and made us feel like we were special guests in their home. The Inn was a wonderful experience for us all. The rooms were comfortable, the decor suited the history of the inn with lots of thoughtful touches. Even if you aren’t a history buff you will still appreciate the restoration of this inn. Great patio area for evening conversations with Sandy and Kathy. Cannot forget to mention the silver tea service breakfast! Highly recommend!

Sehr empfehlenswert.

Perfectly run and comfortable hotel Like many, we stayed only overnight before the morning ferry. It is a very welcoming place, with a recent full makeover. Rooms have large, comfortable beds, high quality coverings, towels and soaps. And we had a great nights sleep. There’s a second floor deck with tables and chairs to catch some sun, as well as a small garden. What more could you ask for?

A meticulously clean BnB experience in a heritage building in a sleepy village in Nova Scotia. ☺ Amazing heritage building. Beautiful rooms. Lovely linens. Nice touch with the black washclothes for makeup. Perfect jumping off point for the ferry to PEI the next day. ☹ Guests needs to remember that this is not a traditional hotel. Check-in is within a specific window. But that's part of the charm!

Fantastic stay! This property is a lovingly renovated old building in historic Pictou. Rooms are comfortable but on the small side as befits the style of Inn. Rooms are meticulously clean. Be aware, there are stairs to this property if mobility is an issue. There is a lovely deck garden area for evening drinks and conversation. Breakfast is served with personal attention by our Scottish host! Sandy and Cathy are amazing hosts. They went above and beyond and provided great travel advise for our road trip to Cape Breton. ☺Cleanliness, staff & service, property conditions & facilities, room comfort

A lovely old building. Quiet, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Excellent hosts, very friendly and accommodating. Who wouldn't enjoy having breakfast served by the host in a kilt? For anyone with mobility issues, there is no elevator. And, a pleasant surprise - no TV - at least not in my room. ☺Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities

I had contacted this B&B while the owners were abroad and, in the midst of emailing back and forth, never ended up securing the reservation. A mere two days before we were to leave for our trip, I realized that I had never received a confirmation and called the hotel directly to check. Luckily, I was able to secure lodging for our one night stay and the owner provided some driving tips for a more scenic route. Check-in is available between 4-7 pm. For those driving from out of province, this can be tight, but I was told I could call to advise if we were going to be a little late. I believe we arrived at 7:05 and we were still able to check in, though I did make sure to call to advise we were on our way. On arrival, the owner, upon finding out I was from Ottawa, made a comment about Trudeau and left-wing nuts...which I found to be a rather odd welcome after having driven 7 hours to check-in to their B&B, though I admit to not being a purveyor of hospitality myself. 😉 We were upgraded to a very nice and spotless King bed room. It was cool that evening, so we were able to sleep with the windows open. Pictou can be quite humid, and there was some noise from the street well into the night (music from a nearby apartment and a fair number of vehicles on the road). There was a small A/C unit provided that we could have turned on had we decided to close the windows. The owners recommended some restaurants for dinner, and we enjoyed the food at the Nook and Cranny very much. A black towel is provided for removing makeup, which was a nice touch, and there were two little locally made hand-soaps in the washroom which we thought was lovely. The provided towels were large and soft. The shower stall is quite tiny. Be prepared to have your elbows right up against the walls as you wash your hair, especially if you're tall. The hair-dryer in our bathroom didn't work even after we tried plugging and unplugging it a few times. Breakfast was provided and was a nice touch. It's not a lot of food (a yogurt, some blueberries, and a warm croissant with orange juice, tea, or coffee), but it's enough to start the day. This has been mentioned numerous times, but if you're not able to do stairs for whatever reason (due to age or injury), this hotel does not have an elevator...this is not uncommon amongst B&Bs in my experience. The hosts will provide you with some bags to bring belongings up to your room. As we were leaving, the owner provided some nice stops on our route to Cheticamp. All in all, the price for this B&B was good and it's a good location for a stop and regroup when you're on your way to Cape Breton.

Many thanks to Sandy and Cathy for an unforgettable stay in a unique location. This is by far the best hotel in my life, and I have seen a lot of them. Warm homely atmosphere, but your home will never be so clean and everything is prepared for you. Incredible and unexpected place. Will definitely come back here and recommend to friends. Thanks Sandy!
